As A 2nd Year Student

Here what I mean as the second year students are those who belong to ISCF member. Well, I think I am not that close with my 2nd year friends in my physics class. The reason is because of the multi nationalities which make it difficult to blend. Like what I said before, the birds will flock with those with the same fur. So, I make more friends with Indonesians here. But it's not all Indonesian, only those in ISCF only. As second year students, I think we have more influences in ISCF because there are a lot of us and our relationship is the strongest one, I think

The photo above was taken after a Friday session on Holy Spirit Doctrine. That was the ISCF program where we are separated by groups based on the year and we have our own material to learn.

Well, what I see is the difference of our topic of conversation compared what we talked last year. Last year, we talked only about the school work, assignment, AUs, Grade, SU and other academic stuffs. Now, the conversation is mostly about love (girl or boy), relationship, share, life and more general things. I am so grateful that we have a closer relationship each other day by day and I am so grateful that I have family in this hectic Singapore. Hopefully, It can last until a long time.

My Wishlist

Well, recently I often browse from http://www.kutukutubuku.com and trying to search the books that it will be great for me if I have some of them to read. Hopefully, I can buy some of them when I go back to Indonesia. The first tetralogy is about Pramoedya Ananta Toer's books. I bought one one of them already which is entitled Bumi Manusia. Well, my friend told me that the novels will be more difficult to be understood. Perhaps, Pramoedya used more difficult language usage or more complex events. But, I don't know yet. Let's see how it will be.

The next is about trilogy from Andrea Hirata. Many of my friends told me about this book. I am curious and as if I am really eager to buy it. Besides, my friend in NTU until asked someone in Indonesia to send the novel to him. Huhuhu...I also want these books. Basically, these novels are about the child life of Andrea Hirata in Belitong. I myself don't know about where Belitong is.

Yes, finally I know what my friend told me at that time. He said that he wanted to learn Javanese language after reading this book written by Romo Magniz Suseno. I was shy I think I have lost my javanese ethics a bit nowadays. That's why I really wanna read it to know at least how my culture actually is.

This is Aditya Mulya's book. This tells about the trip to Barcelona. I think I will be more interested in the travelling part. The story is a bit, sorry, unclear. But, I think it will entertain me much. One thing that I don't understand is why there are many authors in one novel. Let's check it out later.

Well, the last book will be about love. Many people said that this novel uses the beautiful words. Just now, I thought that this Gilli Land was in Lombok. In fact, this is the madura-speaking-people land. Well, this novel is about love in Gilli island between Suamar and Suhada. Well, from the reviews, this novel is the sad ending one. Hihihi...I think this will be interesting.

After calculating all, I think I will spend :

Anak Semua Bangsa
is Rp 68.000,00
Jejak Langkah is Rp 77.750,00
Rumah Kaca is Rp 70.550,00
Laskar Pelangi is Rp 51.000,00
Sang Pemimpi is Rp 34.000,00
Edensor is Rp 33.150,00
Etika Jawa is Rp 35.000,00
Traveler's Tale is Rp 40.000,00
Matahari di Atas Gilli is Rp 60.000,00

So, totally it will be Rp 469.450,00 or about 80 SGD. Well, let's save money for books. Wow...in Singapore, I can only buy 2 books with 80 dolar. :(

yayay...excited

Online Relationship
Just now, I argued a bit with my friend about the online relationship. I insist that it is not really good if it becomes the most influential part of our life. Well, life in the real world is still the best.

Squatting

The Last Minute Review
Now, it is 0247 am, Singapore time and I am in Changi Airport, my favourite place. My flight (Silk Air MI212) will be about 5 hours onwards. I prefer staying here because I can't wake up early in the morning. Besides, using taxi in the morning is so expensive. So, I came here with Clement and Septian (another Septian), we had dinner together in Fish and Co. Fortunately, I can use the internet here, so I just can kill my boredom by surfing some webs and updating my blog. As soon as possible, the song entitled "Home" by Michael Buble is heard.

"Home"

Another summer day
Has come and gone away
In Paris and Rome
But I wanna go home
Mmmmmmmm

Maybe surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel all alone
I just wanna go home
Oh, I miss you, you know

Let me just give some reviews about what had happened in this one year. The struggle, fear, joy, sadness, pride, happiness, friendship, family, love and dream has just passed. I have finished my first year study in my undergraduate level. Here they are

Relation with God

I think, I know more about bible, about quiet time. But, the difficult thing is maintaining it so I can do it day by day. At least it increases better than what I was in last year.

Relation with Others

Having the cell group and Christian family is also the progress. I can share my idea and at least I don't fell lonely. I have international friends that I never imagine before how difficult it is to communicate with others with the different language and culture. I am now trying to understand the existence of racism and trying to control it. Decreasing prejudice is also what I have tried to do.

Achievement

I can now play tennis, I have blog and website. those two small achievements made me proud enough. I know they weren't that special but those two things were very difficult things that I never thought I could do it.

GPA

Okay, I admit that the GPA in the second semester decreases even though there is no "vitamin C". Hopefully, I can be better next semester.

I think that's all. I am so sleepy now, wanna sleep.
Thanks God for this one year.
Thanks for my family who always supports me

Thanks Singapore for helping me.
Thanks Prof. Huan for helping me.
Thanks my KTB friend.
Thanks my roomate Clement.
Thanks to my senior in NTU who had helped me.

Time to go....

One Year Ago, From Diary

Three hours after the earthquake:
Fortunately, I already got up one minute before the earthquake happened. Then, I realized that my house was shaken. It was so frightening and I was thinking that it was because of the volcanic earthquake of Mt. Merapi. The day was going on like usual for me for some hours. At that time, I wanted to have meeting in my school but on the way just 400 meters from my house, a girl stopped my motor cycle and said that there was flood in Prambanan ( 15 km from my house). The was a rumor that the tsunami happened in Jogja. The main road in Klaten was so crowded and all schools were closed directly because of the chaos on that day. The problem was that my sisters were still at school and my mother couldn’t find her in her school. So, the panic happened in my house. The handphone couldn’t be used and we couldn’t call my sisters. Fortunately, their conditions were okay and finally there was tsunami. We were cheated.

Sabtu pagi, 27 Mei 2006
(Jam 1-an pagi)
I prepared my English there.
(Jam 9 pagi)
Wow, it’s strange.
(Jam 8 Malam)
Perhaps, we can conclude that it is a panic day. Tidak tahu siapa yang harus disalahkan. Lagi-lagi kita berbicara tentang kultur masyarakat.

Unfortunately, some of my classmates were the victim of that earthquake. Some of them haven’t built their house properly. One thing that really couldn’t make me sleep is that there were many small earthquakes that disturbed us. Even, one day, there was much information which told that there would be an earthquake in a specific time till all people in my housing complex were gathering outside theirs houses and waited the earthquake happened. I don’t know how they got those predictions. Many of them also slept outside their houses even though nothing happens with their house. They were just scared of the small earthquakes which possibly happened at that time. For me, I couldn’t sleep for three days because I was so afraid. Sometimes, that traumatic event still came to me even though nothing happens actually but for example if there is a little shake, I will definitely stood up and asked what happened. That was what I did here because sometimes I felt the sake because of the bomb near NTU. I mean the bomb that blasts in National Service Area near NTU.

I still remember how the friendship in our class was built and it was clearly seen when we visited our friends’ house and we gave what we cold give, like the daily need, medicine, and other important stuff. But, I hope we can really learn from this. The earthquake is still frightening and I don’t know what to say if that stroke my home and destroyed it. Perhaps, I wouldn’t be in Singapore. Hopefully, I don’t meet this anymore, this was so frightening. But, let it be what it should be. I am sure that God has His own way.

Announcement

Well, can you guess which one I am? I hope you can guess from those picture which my SMA photo or my 6 months ago photo, or my today photo is. Okay, I admit that today I am fatter than last year. Perhaps, I consumed too much fat here and never do exercises.

What I want to announce here is that I will not put my photo again in my "user" profile (changed with that sunset view) and I hope I will not post too many photo in my blog. Secondly, I will then add my next week posts onwards with these themes, but I will not limit my posts into these only, because sometimes I need to share my experience on that day or if I want to commemorate something:

- Christianity
- Business and Economics
- Indonesian Culture
- Inspiring Singapore
- Physics and other Science
- Inspiring Blogger for Us
- Lifestyle, Food, and Book

Hopefully, I can write full time starting from now onwards.
Then, the most important is that I will launch my own website in this address and it will be active from 28 May 2007.

This site is dedicated for Indonesia and I would like to give what I can.

Thanks,
Septian

Free Will and God's Will
Suddenly, I am interested in philosophy. Today is about free will and God's will. Having read wikipedia, I think that this matter is really debatable and so tough for me. Many perceptions evolve because of the term Free Will. According to Wikipedia, The principle of free will has religious, ethical, and scientific implications. In religious, free will is also perceived differently in each kind of religion. Interestingly, free will was perceived also in Physics, especially in quantum mechanics. In biology, there is a debate on "nature or nurture".

I myself can't understand the concept of free will. I think this about who actually takes control in our body. Is this all determined ? What is compatibilism ? Even, in biology, the debate whether the behaviour of someone is because of the nature (innate qualities) or because of the nurture (personal experiences).

The theology has a different perspective. In Christian theology, God is described as not only omniscient but omnipotent; a notion which some people, Christians and non-Christians alike, believe implies that not only has God always known what choices individuals will make tomorrow, but has actually determined those choices. That is, they believe, by virtue of his foreknowledge he knows what will influence individual choices, and by virtue of his omnipotence he controls those factors. This becomes especially important for the doctrines relating to salvation and predestination. I just can only say that our body is actually not only ourselves, but God has ownership also in one's body.

Okay, I am dizzy already. Too many perpectives.
Habis pusing dari workshopnya Ko Michael.

A Long Road
After finishing my writing class in Bukit Batok Presbyterian Church which was conducted by Pastor Ayub Yahya, I felt how poor my bahasa Indonesia now. I am afraid in one day I can't speak in Bahasa Indonesia fluently. Currently, I am sure that I have been left behind by the advance of slang words in the youth community. Hopefully, by reading the Indonesian blogs, I will keep on touching with my mother tounge.

MRT will always show how Singaporeans actually be. When we saw the couple of lovers who hug each other (and sometimes kiss each other), or when everyone tends to listen to their iPod, some of them just read, some of them sleep, some read a book or newspaper and many of them didn't talk each other. Mostly shows how this fast pace of life influences their attitude and thinking.

I saw many strange things in the MRT. There was an old man who suddenly got a kind of sickness (it seems like an unconciousness or almost can't walk) and fortunately someone stops the train by pressing a kind of button in that MRT and MRT stops for a while. Another phenomenon that I saw was there was an old woman who talked to herself. I didn't know what happens to her actually. As if she talked to someone. When Pastor Ayub Yahya said that I should write something in MRT, I think I can't do it. I will be dizzy, it seems that I can't do anything in a moving vehicle. It is better for me to see the people aroung. Learning something from them then I will contemplate. Hem...so melancholic.

Thanks God for today.

The Last Exam Day
Even though many people hate this exam period, I think this is the memorable period for me. How can I say that ? Exam period is the time where we can aware about the meaning od study. People choose to be nerd for a period of time and to be more "kiasu" ( Hokkien, means afraid to lose). It is more memorable when everyone cares each other, pray each other and also support each other.

There is a funny video from YouTube. This is the hard thing in the exam period, that is the difficulty to get the seats in the library. Sometimes, we should wake up earlier and get the seat before others.
You will regret if you don't watch it.

Daily Note
This noon, I went to canteen 2 to have luch with Chandra. This is like the first time I came to NTU and I met him and he was willing to accompany me to go to the canteen. At that time, I was still afraid to go anywhere. Is everything started and ended with the same thing ? Perhaps, I should always memorize others' kindness to me.

That was the first time for me to swim here. I swam with some friends (Adrian and Chandra) in NIE (National Institute of Education) swimming pool just some blocks near my hall residence. Unfortunately, I didn't bring my swimming glasses. But, the pool was nice. People said that this pool is better than the NTU swimming pool. But, I felt my body is getting fatter. I can't do the free style motion again for a long time. I think, I should practice once a week. In my junior high, it was okay for me to swim 1000 m because I joined a swimming club.

I went to Indonesian Christian Fellowhip service which was about Exam Thanksgiving. Many people said thanks each others and we had a fellowhip together. That was the last day for the final year students. They will graduate already. It is so quick to have a fellowhip with them. At least, I can learn many things from them especially about managing the spirituality in this fast pace country.

This day is great.
Terima kasih.

The Second Exam (Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus)

People who had just finished their exam in Hall D,E, F
After I finished my exam, I went back to my hall then I sent a silly e-mail as a respond of my sadness because the problems were difficult. I know this is wrong, I am sorry my lecturer.

From: #SEPTIAN BUDI WALUYAN#Sent: Thu 4/26/2007 4:54 PM
To: Chen Xin (Asst Prof)Subject: Exam
Dear Prof Chen Xin

I think that the exam questions were more difficult than last year questions.

Thanks

I see. Thanks.

Xin
Hopefully, this sadness won't last too long. I hope He will strengthen me again to have the upcoming exams in monday and wednesday. Even though I failed this subject, I think I will take it wholeheartedly because I was so careless this semester by neglecting this subject.

This day, I went to prayer meeting ISCF and joined cell-group meeting for the first time.

Night Chat
My bad habit is that I set my MSN messenger into appear offline so evryone can't see that I am online. Then, I set it online if the day changes into the dawn, about 3 am. Sometimes, if there is nothing to do. I opened my MIRC then trying to chat with anyone that I don't know at all from other countries. And sometimes, I told to the one I talk to open this blog, LOL !!! Do I advertize too much (Jablai) ?

One day, I met a man named Marco from Italy. I learned many things with him. He said I am very young and it isn't good for me to chat too much. He said the things like this (I just summarize),"What you need is a ball not communicating to others. This world is better if there is no computer like now. Then, the emoticon in MSN like saying "hello" and there is a lauzy icon isn't really important. But, I prefer using this MIRC to chat because it is very nice to use the old fashion thing like this."

Can I be away from keyboard for a long time. This afternoon, I talk to my friend about the usage of computer for the students. I insisted that computer for the non computing major is not very important in NTU. Okay, I know it is too biased adjudication but for me, computer is just for chatting, blogging, and making report. How important is a computer for you ?

The Last Day in My First Year
I like the sunset some days ago. Today is the last day, I mean for this effective weeks in semester two. I was rather upset when I was late for Linear Algebra class this morning. Then, I just went away directly to go to Bugis. Finally, I have bought my returning home ticket for 21st June next by Silk Air. It rained heavily in the afternoon but my trip to Bugis wasn't diturbed by that rain fortunately.

Many things happen in this one year. Cry, laugh, friendship, neighbouring, roomate, experiment, grade, changing course consideration, choir, concert, God, ISCF, KTB, Bukit Batok Church, had happened in my first year in NTU. I don't believe this is so fast. Now I know how this pace of life really affects me in thinking and how I should behave and should do daily. I am really grateful because I am not alone here. I still remember how last year when I was so excited because I was accepted in NTU and about how I was so afraid when my plane landed smoothly in Changi airport in July 27 last year. I am so grateful that God is still and will always be with me till now. I am sure that NTU is the right place that God gives to me even though some weeks ago I was thinking that I regret to study here. Now, I have a commitment that I will walk wholeheartedly and I want to enjoy my undergraduate study in NTU. Thanks for Jesus, my parents, my bestfriends in Indonesia and in this vibrant NTU. I know I can't stand without you right now without all of you.

I know, next week will be my exam. I wanna be hiatus for one or two months later for the preparation. Hopefully, I can update if I have more time. Help me in your pray so I can do my exam papers well. Thanks.

Learning From Friends (3)

Mrs. Tantri Ambarsari, my chemistry teacher said a memorable advice to the class that,"The most beautiful moment is the third year of your senior high school. So, please remember every moment in your last days in this year." I don't know when I will remember that until.

University life is the strange phase in someone's life, especially for the relationship with others. Unfortunately and Fortunately (difficult to choose between those two), I currently study in a multiracial university untill my friend said that she was surrounded by the people with the languages from other planets (May be she hasn't been accustomed to this situation, and I was thinking like that also). Day by day, I understand more that when we make a friendship, we only mix with the people with the same background with us. For example, many of my friends are from choir members. I think that always happens in university life.

Do you think that this is the dangerous phenomenon in university life. It is okay if our friends are from the same extra curriculair activity. This will be more dangerous if our friends are only those who have the same religion, race, culture, and a specific group. There's a joke that I always use to tease my neighbour usually, when he mentioned one's name, I can always easily guess that he or she is my neighbor's friend from the same school as him or from the same religion with him. This is the dangerous thing when we limit ourselves. I think this isn't always because of we limit ourselves also, the main reason is that we are already busy with our tasks and school assignment untill we don't have time to create more friendship.

The identity crisis sometimes strikes those who face this multiracial themselves. For example when someone who isn't Indian always makes friend with the Indians. I think that person will feel something strange if he or she comes back to his or her own society. He or she will think also that he or she is an Indian. Hopefully, this doesn't happen to me (almost). There is a contemplable story from one of my friend. She quit from a kind of extra curriculair activity because she finally knew that many people from a specific nation joined that club. Because she has been for a long time in Singapore, the hatred to a specific nation evolves in her mind. This is really dangerous if we aren't open-minded in a multiracial country.

This is the time for us to check whether we have made friends with all people without choosing our own friends from our own community. I know that this can't be avoided. "Birds of a feather, flock together", I think that is the proper proverb to depict the situation. I myself feel more convenient with those who are from Indonesia. Hopefully, I can learn much from the next four years in this multiracial NTU. Understanding other people is one of the purpose why God placed me here. Okay, wanna go to Vietnam this June. Who wants to join ?

Habis prayer meeting tadi sore, ngobrol tentang hal sejenis. Habis makan udang Bu Rudi pemberian Adrian.

My Questions of the Day

Two friends of mine ask two different questions and I was thinking about those questions in this day.

* Why should you study abroad if you know nothing ?

* Hey Septian, I am wondering, are you actually smart ?

When can I answer those questions ?

I myself don't know.

It's Complicated
This is the recess week but I am not free. This is the time to work harder. The big problem is that choir practice disturbs my study because the crazy and hectic schedule was made. I want to skip but ouch....I can't say that. I want to take a rest. This is just so tiring. I still have many subjects to study. When can I be so aware that I am a physics student who needs to study a lot.
I may not run. Everything will be completed, I am sure.

Untung tadi ketemu Indomie. Enak deh, jarang2 makan indomie. Hahaha...

Suasana chinese new year sudah terasa. Mungkin mereka mau buat Ca ato semacam chinese cuisine gitu deh. Jalan2 sedikit macet tapi ada hubungan ga ya ama Chinese new Year? Apa mungkin peak hour memang jam segitu. Saya memang jarang keluar sore, kalo tengah malem ato pagi sih biasa.

OK deh, Gong Xi Fa Cai

It is about what I face and the circumstances which I encounter.
About Me

Name: -ian-
Home: Nanyang Crescent, Boon Lay, Singapore
About Me: When everything changes, I wanna still stay there calmly, and wait for the right time. I am surrounded by so called "radical" dreams. I don't know whether it is a form of idealism of a youth. But, be a doctor was my dream, but Physics came into me. ITB was my dream, but He gave NTU for me. Currently, I wanna be a high school teacher, researcher, journalist, writer, businessman, also want to study abroad again. It is unclear but it is fair. As far as I can, because I can jump higher as a true worshiper, as a true believer. Let me be a clay oh God, form me as You want.
